INFORMATION, CONTACT DETAILS, LINKS

I started out by conducting informal ceremonies for friends and family: eulogies at funerals, speeches at weddings and at other life-marking events. It was only a matter of time before I was asked to conduct a full wedding ceremony!

And just a few months later I was asked to take charge of my first funeral...

After a while I started (and completed) training with the FPC (see below) and now I love helping people to celebrate the big events in their lives not only the obvious ‘Hatch, Match and Despatch’, but also events celebrating significant birthdays, adoptions (how often does this huge event go formally unmarked?) and renewals of marriage vows.

AND IF YOU CAN THINK OF ANOTHER ceremony, something that, perhaps, you’ve always wanted, or something that just seems necessary to you at the moment, then don’t be afraid to talk about it, I promise I’ll treat it seriously no matter how off-the-wall it may seem at first!

I WAS ONCE EVEN ASKED TO DO AN EXORCISM!

A recent example of an unusual celebration was someone who phoned asking for an ‘exorcism’ ... it turned out that he simply wanted a way to say ‘Goodbye’ to the departed Neighbours-From-Hell’and ‘Welcome’ to the new people moving in!

Needless to say, a ceremony was created, the garden fence came down, there was dancing, cleansing with burning sage, children bringing flowers and furniture into the house ... and not a hint of ‘Hollywood’ but, instead, a meaningful and satisfying ‘out with the old and in with the new’.

Yes, you name it and I’ll find a way to mark the occasion with you!

COSTS

These are only a guide since items such as travel and additional materials and visits may need to be taken into account: weddings and partnerships are usually £500 (I've never yet charged more than this!) with higher figures for overseas and more complicated events. Renewals of vows will be a little less than a wedding simply because there tends to be less time spent on interviews and preparation, baby-namings are typically around £250. A funeral in the Central Somerset area is a fixed £185. All fees will be discussed in detail at the first meeting and the figures shown here should not be taken as definitive.

For weddings a deposit is required fairly early on in the process in order to reserve the date, with the balance payable in full at least a month before the date of the event.a

*THE FELLOWSHIP OF PROFESSIONAL CELEBRANTS, FPC

I am a member of the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants (FPC), one of a number of training and registration bodies. I abide by their Standards of Service and Code of Ethics and I have Public Liability insurance under their umbrella scheme. For more information and a list of their other celebrants click on their logo here.

This fellowship trains celebrants in all kinds of work at a range of levels.

Following further training I became, through the FPC, a Supplier member of the National Association of Funeral Directors ...

... and in much the same vein, the FPC as a whole is an Associate Member of the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors.

PHOTOGRAPHS

Many of the photographs on this website were provided by Bill Bradshaw who says he doesn’t want to ‘do’ weddings, but he still does them remarkably well: www.billbradshaw.co.uk

And, also in Langport, is Donna Vale; take a look at her work on Facebook at

VENUES

Venues can be many and varied: licensed for weddings or unlicensed, a clearing in the woods or a stately home.  One of my favourites is The Yurt Retreat near Crewkerne in Somerset and a quick hop over to The Yurt Retreat

will show you exactly why!

Another venue catering for a deliciously rustic wedding

without actually needing wellies is Old Oak Farm on the edge of Curry Rivel at www.rebeccajaneweddings.info

One that I’d be happy to recommend for small parties in the

Langport area for affordability, elegance and delightful hospitality is:

Studio Farrows, in Aller (near Langport), see them at www.studiofarrows.com

HANDFASTING TIES, tiaras, bobby pins, fascinators and decorative cordwork

As well as fully-formed handfasting ties, Claire Ritchie makes D.I.Y. kits,

cords and accessories (even garters!) all produced with huge care

and attention to detail. Do take a look at:
